| Those
clubs that have youth involved in
the Junior Olympic program in Montana
are reminded of several requirements
for J.O. events. |
- All
participants in J.O. state meets must
have a USA TRACK & FIELD membership
card.
- Entry
into state, regional and national competition
requires a copy of a birth certificate
(or proof of age) with meet application.
Be sure each athlete submits a copy,
not an original, and that a copy is
attached to entry forms at each level
of competition (see #3).
- In
1994, legislation was passed to enable
the state membership chair to verify
proof of age if a birth certificate
is submitted with individual membership
applications. New membership cards now
have a place for age verification. This
verification eliminates the need for
birth certificates at each level of
competition, but does not eliminate
the need for a copy of the membership
card to enter events.
- Junior
Olympic competition is a step-wise qualification
process. Qualification must first be
made at the state level to go on to
regional level, and regional level completed
before an athlete can go on to nationals.
The number of advancers at each level
varies with the level of competition
(i.e. state or regional) and the sport
(i.e. track & field or cross country).
The state youth chairmen, or the state
membership chair, can answer questions
on these programs. Contact the state
office for the current chairman of youth
athletics and information on the program.
